It depends sometimes for online purchases they ask for social for a twenty dollar purchase. And the social security # is used to run a soft credit check and to ask verifying questions. It must be legitimate.

Anyway, since Simon gift VIRTUAL cards are no longer available, for our purposes, the best is just to go to a mall and purchase a physical Simon AMEX card, which works fine for PayPal for all purposes, and for EBay at least for payment of fees.

One thing nice about these Simon AMEX cards is that the expiration dates are eight years out - not just two like before, and, at least in California, there are NO fees associated with the cards once purchased.
