  • Selling items C.O.D. on Ebay - pros and cons with C.O.D. payment for goods sold

Anyone have any experience selling items C.O.D. on Ebay? Interested in the pros and cons.

It can be done, but Ebay frowns on it. If you do ship C.O.D., and I used to sell everything on the 'net C.O.D. in the pre-Ebay days, ship UPS and mark the box "cash or cashier's check only" for payment. I never had any problems, but with the sophistication nowadays I suppose rip off artists could give the UPS driver a counterfeit cashier's check.

There is some legal case law on this - in one case UPS was held liable for accepting a counterfeit cashier's check (the judge commented that, "I mean, the check has to look real, it can't be printed on toilet paper"), but in the other case the court ruled that UPS was not liable at all and that their duty was just to drop off the goods and pick up the payment - whatever the "payment" might look like or be.
