  • Craig's List

    Advantages:

No listing costs. No shipping costs.

    Disadvantages:

Fewer buyers (nothing beats EBAY for exposure).
Time consuming - you must physically meet with buyers, and not every person you meet with will conclude the transaction.
Security issue - meeting with people in person.

Sex Ads Seen Adding Revenue to Craigslist

Sex Ads Seen Adding Revenue to Craigslist - NYTimes.com

Craig's list is no longer donating proceeds from "personal" "sex ads" to charities.

The ads, many of which blatantly advertise prostitution, are expected to bring $36 million this year, according to a new projection of Craigslist’s income. That is three times the revenue in last year’s projection.

It's not REQUIRED that you meet with them in person.

Well actually 99% of people will only deal with other people who are only local thus a local classified. People go there to do transactions locally. Only 1% of people go there for other purposes.

Posted on Craiglist, Successful only 5% of The Time

I've posted a few items for sale on Craigslist and I've only had two successful transactions.

Mostly, I've gotten weirdo responses asking for naked photos of myself, strange emails back and forth and three times I waited to meet a buyer only to be stood up.

Why do people do this? Are they selling my email address for spam (have received more spam after replying to bogus inquiries)? I can't figure out what the motive is with the buyer(s). Can anyone give me a clue?

          Thanks,

          Junie

There are a lot of phony posts on Craig's List, such as Nigerians advertising luxury rentals for obviously low prices, and then asking for Western Union payments to secure the leases.

But, someone I know does have quite a lot of success with selling medium to high end electronics on Craig's List. Local buyers meet him in person and transact for cash.

Craig's List is changing, and at least for dealers, more and more categories are no longer free. Craig's List isn't what it used to be, and seems to me to be in decline.
